Wrestling legend Sting Tweeted the following cryptic message today:
Although that date is the same day as next Monday’s RAW it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s appearing on the show. There has still been no confirmation that he’s signed any kind of contract directly with WWE, neither as a talent or a legend.
Obviously he could have done it on the quiet, but what seems more likely is some kind of announcement for the WWE 2K15 video game. As with the Ultimate Warrior last time around, Sting is believed to have signed a deal with the game company to be part of marketing material. A casting call was circulated last month for Sting look alikes to be filmed for the game, and the gaming websites have Sting included in early roster lists.
The date may mark the official reveal for his inclusion.
On the WWE front, we do know a Sting DVD and Blu-ray set is in the works, and he has already appeared on some of the Ultimate Warrior programming on the Network. WWE.com have also chronicled his career in an article written by Bill Apter, and they did a mock Undertaker vs Sting promo video playing off the internet hype.
In other words there is definitely a relationship between both parties, but what that entails is still just speculation.
Sting himself mentioned during Wrestlemania weekend that next year may be his year. So it may be that again like Warrior he gets the Hall of Fame treatment next year When Wrestlemania is in California, where Sting was always billed from.
At 55 years old a regular in-ring return seems doubtful on WWE’s level, though a final match on PPV is a possibility. His work in TNA shows that he can still work a decent match. What’s clear though is it won’t be against the Undertaker
WWE 2K15 will be released on PS4 & PS3, and XBox One & 360, on October 28, 2014 in North America, and the 31st in Europe. Currently revealed for the roster is Bray Wyatt, John Cena, Hulk Hogan, Cesaro, Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan, Naomi, Cameron and AJ Lee.
