Well that was a very interesting Royal Rumble on a number of fronts. WWE clearly teased the Rock in a cynical attempt to get Network subscriptions and didn’t deliver fully, leading to poor Dolph Ziggler entering to no reaction at number 30. Daniel Bryan was eliminated mid way through leaving Roman Reigns to the wolves, which begs the question why even return Bryan if he wasn’t going to win?
Bullshit chants rang through the arena in the closing moments with Reigns fending off Big Show, Kane and later Rusev who was playing possum on the outside. One can’t help but feel sorry for Reigns. He has all the potential but WWE set him up to fail. Too much too soon and poorly executed.
They at least had the foresight to have The Rock do a run in at the end to save Reigns from a beatdown and give him “the rub” but the crowd were not buying it at all, booing right until the end.
Reigns will probably rebound on the next few RAWs when the crowds aren’t as “hardcore,” but this reaks of Batista all over again, and he has the world on his shoulders.
Meanwhile we got none other than Bubba Ray Dudley as a surprise entrant, along with DDP and the Boogeyman … no word on if the former Bully Ray will get an extended run.
The Triple Threat saw Brock Lesnar get the victory, in a very hard hitting match where Rollins really shined as a character.
As of now it’s Lesnar vs Reigns at Wrestlemania.
