Tonight’s final episode of WWE RAW before Survivor Series from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, has a country music theme – alienating half the planet.
Country group Florida Georgia Line will be performing “their multi-week #1, gold-certified smash ‘Round Here,'” though 3MB’s Heath Slater is not amused, writing on Twitter:
“@FLAGALine No need for you guys to come to #Raw.. 3MB has it covered. We will Rock Your Face!!!”
So expect some kind of comedic confrontation between the two “bands”.
Another celebrity possibly appearing is baseball star Josh Reddick of the Oakland Athletics, who has been in a lighthearted Twitter beef with Daniel Bryan. He wrote:
“Hey @WWEDanielBryan guess what??? I’ll see you at #RAW tomorrow night. My beard will be there too. #BEARDOFF”
Rey Mysterio told The Tennessean that he will be at the show, though it’s not clear if he will be shown on camera, as he has not made a televised in-ring return yet.
As far as matches John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio has been advertised locally, but this could be a dark match main event rather than on the TV broadcast.
WWE.com are hyping the following points for the show:
– Stephanie McMahon and Triple H return from vacation.
– Will Kane unleash the monster within?
– The fan voted most devastating submission maneuver from WWE 2K14 will be revealed.
– Will The Wyatt Family get revenge on CM Punk and Daniel Bryan?
The Wrestling Pundit
Though country music is huge in the US it seems like an odd choice by WWE, who have worked for years at making the company not come across as “red-necky”. Obviously it makes sense to do something like this in the “music city”, but they don’t necessarily have to promote it. I’m sure I’m not the only one who saw the hype and groaned. Could it actually work against them? There’s also the fact that most people outside of the US have no idea who Florida Georgia Line are or care about country music.
I’ll be interested to see how the live crowd reacts.
