Ric Flair off SmackDown Following Surgery

As noted earlier this week Ric Flair missed the NXT Takeover 2 event because he was having stomach surgery. Although he was still being advertised for tonight’s SmackDown tapings, WWE have now confirmed that he won’t in fact be appearing:

WWE Legend Ric Flair is recovering from successful surgery and will miss tomorrow’s scheduled guest referee appearance at SmackDown. Ric is doing well and we look forward to him returning to WWE in the near future.

Speaking of SmackDown Syfy have confirmed their Fall line-up and SmackDown will indeed now be staying on Friday night’s. No word on why they dropped the move to Thursday.

Lesnar’s Clause When Signing With WWE

Jim Ross revealed in his latest Fox Sports column that when Brock Lesnar originally signed with WWE he worked in a clause that they had to also sign Shelton Benjamin.

The only catch was that we needed to also recruit and offer Brock’s Minnesota teammate, Shelton Benjamin, as well. Benjamin was an amazing athlete, and signing the South Carolina native was a blessing as he had a solid WWE career, arguably underutilized in the opinion of some. Plus, he made Brock’s transition from the amateurs to the pros much easier.

Robinson (Lesnar’s wrestling coach) knew Brock could be a challenging athlete to manage, so having Benjamin in the same training camp was a major positive in the development of Lesnar.
